Jeju Island: Jungmun Daepo Coast Jusangjeolli Cliff 中文大浦海岸柱状节理带

The name of this cliff is so long right?
Anyway, it is abbreviated as Jusangjeolli (Not Angelina Jolie) Cliff.

Formation of Jusangjeolli Cliff
The Jusangjeolli was formed when the lava from Mt. Hallasan(the highest mountain in Jeju-do as well as in South Korea) erupted and flowed into the sea of Jungmun. The lava cool down in a fast speed when they flowed into the sea and it shrink thus forming the pillar shaped cliff.

So what is so special about this cliff?
Jusangjeolli are stone pillars that piled up along the coast and what special about that pillars are they are not just normal irregular shaped pillars but they have SHAPE!!
They shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes(Height: 30-40 metres).

Who carved them out?
Answer: Mother of Nature.
(Now you know why Jeju-do is one of the Seven Wonders of Nature in the World)

p1040486_副本It was a rainy day but we still semangat berkobar-kobar to have a look at the area.

Jeju Island: Manjanggul Lava Tube 万丈窟

p1040116_副本Today I am writing a blogpost on Manjanggul Lava Cave which is one of my favourite tourist spots in Jeju (others are SeungSan Ilchubong and Teseum, click HERE and HERE to read more about the sites.)
  • Manjanggul Cave (만장굴) is one of the finest lava tunnels in the world, and it is honored as UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • A lava tunnel is formed when the lava that was deep in the ground spouts from the peak and flows to the surface.
  • Only 1km of the 13km Manjanggul Cave is open to the tourists. We took about 40minutes to finish the visit.
  • The inside of the tunnel sustains at a temperature of 11-21℃. According to my tour guide, you will feel chilling cold during the summer and warm during the winter in the cave. We visited the lava cave during summer, and it is so chilling in the cave. (*shivering*)

Entrance as well as the exit of the lava tube.
p1040068_副本
When lava flows in a tube, the level of the low if often recorded on the walls.
These features are called lava flow line.
Lava flow lines makes the wall looks like chocolate layer cake.

In Manjanggul Lava Tube, large and small passages occurs repetitively.

This is a Lava Raft that named as Turtle Stone, which is shaped like Jeju-do Island.
Lava raft is formed when the rock fragments from the ceiling or sidewall fall during lava flow and then
are carrying away by lava flow before settling and solidying at a certain location.

好料垫底(means the best is always appear last)
So, the best in Manjanggul Lava Tube is this 7.6meter high lava column and

p1040095_副本
A lava column forms when lava pours down from the ceiling to the floor and congeals.
Lava columns are found in many lava tubes elsewhere in the world.
However, this is the largest lava column known.

Seoul: Insadong,仁寺洞

Insadong is a unique place where the traditional art meet with the modern art of South Korea. So, if you love arts, Insadong is a must go place in Seoul.

We bought our souvenirs at here, but from what I studied about, Nam Dae Mun is the place where you can get souvenirs at a cheaper price as compared to the shops in Insadong. Too bad, we didn’t visit Nam Dae Mun, what a waste~ But, missing some tourist spots motivated me to save money and visit the country again.

How to Get There?
dscf8639_副本
Go to Anguk Station (Subway Line 3), Exit 6.
Go 100m straight, then turn left, and you will see this big brush in front of you.
The moment you see the big brush, just take out your smartphone and check in yourself at Insadong.

What can you get from Insadong?
For silk products, you can get, silk pouches, silk clutches, silk mirror, silk pencil box, silk passport cover.
For day use stuffs, they have chopstick, Tshirt, ceramics etc etc.

Samziegil
Ssamziegil, located in the middle street of Insadong, is a design gallery
that exhibits and sells the art of nationally recognized artists.
It is a 4 storey building, that was designed by connecting its charming alleys
in the form of a spiral-like stairway.

I would say, Koreans are artistic. If I simply conteng on the wall, police will catch me for doing vandalism.
But, in Seoul, bringing marker pens out and leave their words/drawings on the wall is their culture.

This is how they plant a tree in a concrete building.
Scribble words and painting on the pillar.
Even at the staircase.

If this is only a wall full with those graffiti, I will say messy and irritating.
But with the decorations around, OMG, it is so artistic hor~

And, we saw a pair of old couple and took a picture with them.

The old uncle is so cute in his Cheogori and Paji.
Elderly in Korea are so energetic and healthy that they can travel on their own.
