Hanoi Trip November 2013

Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam since hundreds years ago. I always wanted to visit Halong Bay and my uncle advised me to go at year end, so tadaa, Hanoi here I am in the month of November.
Unlike HCM trip that I travel by Free and Easy, I took tour packages(2d1n Halong Bay Cruise tour and 2d1n Mai Chau tour) from BB Hanoi Hostel.
I definitely will revisit this beautiful country again. Next will be Central Vietnam.

This is the itinerary for my 6days 5nights Hanoi Trip from 20-25 November.

Day 1
Check in BB Hanoi Hostel(Highly recommend this hotel). Walk around Old Quarters. “Lunner” at Highway 4 Restaurant. We stayed at Family Room with breakfast at USD29/night and Tony, manager of hostel gave us a free airport transfer to hotel.

Day 2-3
Check out BB Hanoi Hostel and joined the 2 days 1 night Halong Bay Tour with Christina Cruise(USD85 per person). Back to BB Hanoi Hostel on the 3rd day after lunch in cruise.

Day 4-5
Check out BB Hanoi Hostel and joined the 2 days 1 night Mai Chau Tour(USD60 per person). Stayed at tilt house. Back to BB Hanoi Hostel on the 3rd day after lunch.

Day 6
Bye bye Hanoi.

Wayfarer Guest House, Melaka

Wayfarer GH is actually an old building(formerly known as Hock Chiang Rubber Co. Limited Enterprise) which is then turned into a family run Guest House.
20131026_120318_副本20131026_120331_副本20131026_120342_副本Common Guest Area and the Air Well,
well decorated with antique collection.
Vintage style.

We are given a air-cond control, and some brief explanation from the receptionist upon checked in. We are told to walk gently on the wooden floor to avoid unnecessary noise to other residents.

Layout of the GH(taken from official website)

We booked Room 9(Colonial Standard), but was told that our booking is changed to Room 7(Standard Suite) due to a I-forget-why reason.Well, I am ok with the change. Room rate is the same for both Room 7 and 9, which is RM170 per night. Note that, pre-payment of 50% of the room rate is required to confirm your reservation
Nah, is time to explore our Room 7.

Spot the oriental feel bed frame.
The nicest part is 2 pillows for each of us. <3 pillows!20131025_181925_副本20131025_180848_副本I love this vintage wooden door for bathroom.
Looks heavy but I fall in love with it at first sight.20131025_180837_副本Clean bathroom with hot air shower.

Seriously love to stay here lo, the air-cond is so chilling, with the comfy bed, and super fast free wifi connection, we had our sweet time doing nothing here. Definitely will stay here again if I have plan to overnight in Melaka in the future.
We slept until 11am on the second day, and so sad that we had to check out at 12pm. We saw some rooms are left unclosed, so we sneaked in and took pictures of other nice rooms.

Room 6 Artist Suite
Room 6 is a river view room, which have a King Size bed and private balcony for you to sit down and relax while enjoying the beautiful view of Melaka River. Should I stay at suite with river view during my next visit? Hmmm~
20131026_115803_副本20131026_115736Another eye catching bathroom door and clothes hanger.

Room 5 Trader Suite
I think room 5 is the largest room in this GH. It is a street view room with 1 King size bed and 2 single bed. You will see a king size bed once you opened the door and 2 single beds are located at the mezzanine floor.

Eat Around Melaka

This makan-makan & jalan-jalan trip was happened in last October. Spent a weekend in Melaka and hmm, successfully gained weight by munching all these foods into stomach.

Coconut Milk Shake
The famous one is actually located at somewhere named Klebang, but I took this at Bukit Berendam area, he claimed that this was his hangout place during his study. I should said this is Ice Blended Coconut instead of Coconut Milk Shake, because the ice in the drink makes me have brain freeze *pain*. (Ignore this sentence if you couldn’t get it, haha!) What is nice about this small stall is that we can have free flow of coconut juice.

Bistro Year 1673
Located at the center of Jonker Street. In Trip advisor, it ranked #28 restaurants in Melaka. We dined in here and personally feel that foods are so-so, drinks are so-so, the price is NOT so-so. Not recommended to dine here, take your meal at Portuguese Settlement better(cheap and nice seafood).

The Baboon House
Oh no, I miss the burgers here. I don’t know how yummy is the famous burger joints in KL as i never tried before, but I would rate burgers in this Baboon House 4 of 5. (Leave the highest mark for the best burgers I going to eat in the future). Actually hor, this Baboon House is a fusion of art gallery+burger shop, I saw bloggers snapping pictures here, but when I was there, it actually was not allowed to take pictures. So sad! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this cafe!

We ordered the famous Teriyaki Pork Chop Burger(RM14.80) and Egg&Bacon Cheese Burger(RM13.80).

Calanthe Art Cafe
20131026_150413_副本
This cafe is the little heaven for all coffee lovers and they claimed to be the first and only cafe in Melacca serving 13 states’ coffees. We tried the Sarawak and Pahang Coffee. To coffee lovers, this is the place you should go!

Sarawak: 50% Robusta beans, 50% of sugar, margarine and wheat flour
Pahang: House roasting. Using 100% Robusta beans from Indonesia.

I would say the coffee here is the nicest coffee I ever tried. (Better than Starbucks!). I run out of descriptive vocab, so allow me to describe it in my mother tongue. 从来没有喝过咖啡味那么够力香和浓的咖啡,泡出来的咖啡可以feel到他们放咖啡粉好像不用本酱。一流!

Swiss Belinn Medan

When I was looking for accomodation in Medan City at Agoda, this hotel gave me a good impression. Then, travellers Cari forum who stayed here before also gave good reviews on this hotel, so I just placed my bookings through Agoda. A twin bed Superior Room costs us about RM130 per night(inclusive of breakfast).
I would say, the check in process is fast, the rooms are nice and comfortable, the location is strategic with a street selling Chinese foods situated right behind the hotel. I think the facilities provided are beyond my expectation with the amount of money we paid. Furthermore, I knew I made a right choice when I saw tour groups checking in to this hotel.

Buffet style breakfast is included in the room rate. Not much choices available but taste nice. I am a huge fan of Lontong(a kind of Indonesian food) and pancake, Swiss Berlinn Medan have them in their breakfast buffet.

As I mentioned, there is a street selling Chinese foods right behind the hotel and it is accessible with the back door of hotel. We had our dinner at a Chinese Restaurant with reasonable price and taken this Martabak Piring as supper. Highly recommend the one with chocolate and cheese toppings! The best apam balik I ever ate. (Why I cant find it in Pasar Malam here!?)20130918_201908_副本

Hereby I end my Medan post.

Bye 2013, Hello 2014

Happy New Year 2014 everyone! May the sad things happened in year 2013 will not block you from achieving your dreams in 2014!

Hmm, gonna share something personal on this special date.

About 2013:
Is a tough year for me, but anyway, I still able to find some wonderful things here and there. Well, this is LIFE.

Tough because I was disturbed(well, is still ongoing, so to be actual, is not a past tense) by an unknown hacker for months, (counting) almost 6 months!!!

Wonderful because my parents and both grandmothers are healthy and my siblings are doing well in their study. And yes, I am healthy and 38 as usual too!

Wonderful because I am working and living happily at my hometown despite some working issues did affect my mood. But overall, I still enjoy my life. Learned a lot of things and make a lot of new friends.

Wonderful because I still able to travel around and have savings for the same time. Travelled to Thailand(thrice in a year), Medan(wonderful trip with awesome friends) and Hanoi(Central Vietnam will be the next).

2013 officially comes to an end. Don’t ask me about my New Year resolution, because I can’t specific it out. But I will say, I hope me and my family members are healthy and do well in their life; continue to travel around (Show off time, next year: HK, Thai and Taiwan); continuous learning in working life; no more disturbances.

I wont ask 2014 be good to me like my friends did, because I believe positive energy and positive attitude beneath yourselves is the reasons why good things happen! So, add oil to myself!

PS: I read posts in Facebook saying that peoples that count down with you are those important to you, that’s why you want to be 1314 with them. Well, for me, this is a very unreasonable one la, countdown should never be a parameter for you to judge who is important for you. Muahaha, forgive my not-so-romance thinking.

Again, Happy New Year!!!
